Tranformation

We have started the transformation of the Green Room into Emily's room. Shortly after moving in, we ripped out the original carpet from 1978, then the room became a catch all. Then it became primary storage after the basement flooded in the spring. Now we've toted everything back to the basement (leaks reduced) & are ready to start!

So far, we've painted the walls with 1 coat of white. Tomorrow we'll give them another. Hopefully 2 is all it will take.

What I did on my summer vacation

So it was more like fall, but it was still vacation. I started it out with my birthday. I took my cat to the vet & hung out with a couple friends. Then home to the family. We had a nice dinner out & they gave me some lovely gifts.

Tuesday I worked on Mom's sock. I started it July 4 weekend with left over yarn from her first pair of socks. Her dog had chewed a hole in one of them & Mom needed a replacement.

Wednesday I matched socks & did laundry. 110 pairs of socks. I'm so tired of matching socks. I still have 1 basket of socks that have not & will not be matched up any time soon.

Thursday, I started on the fabric stash. Three pieces of fabric pulled out to make scrub tops. By the end of Friday, I'd watched some Brisco County Jr & gotten most of 2 tops done. Tonight I finished the 3rd top. I was even good & took the time to finish all my seams.

Nifty Fish, 3 Blind Mice & Sparkly Bunnehs. Now to coordinate with the kids what they want to do with the leftover fabric. Emily is enamored with the bunny fabric & wants a pillow or blanket for her stuffed bunny, Fluffy. We'll see.

The next sewing project will be an easy one, zipper time! I need to install the zipper for Mariah.

Long time, no see

What have I been up to?
I finished Mariah. (A while ago) Well, except for the zipper, but now that it's pushing 100 degrees, I think that can wait till fall.
Pattern: Mariah
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool in gray (I don't remember the exact colorway)
Modifications: I knit the hood as the pattern describes & hated it. The sleeves were too heavy & pulled the whole thing off my shoulders unless I had the hood up. I ripped back to the top of the shoulders (where the sleeve cabling ended) & continued the cable & rib pattern across the whole sweater. I like this much better. It stays on my shoulders & I have enough yarn left over that I can make a cool hat to go with it instead of the hood. I have gotten several compliments on it. :-)
And I go a new 'do. Of course, it's grown out some from this picture, but I'm happy with the short hair.

Tulips are finally blooming!

Many things

As the kids get sugared up, I'm happy to say, fixing the sound issue on my computer also fixed the card reader issue. I'm not sure how it all worked, but it did, and I'm happy.

So, the first day of spring, we got a foot of snow. The next day, it was good for snowman building. Wet & sticky. However we had to build fast & prop him up as we went, it was melting fast!



I haven't finished my sweater yet. I'm mad at it for taking so long.

Friday we saw How to Train Your Dragon. Good thing dragons aren't real, because I think everyone would want one!

Yesterday, after work, we fixed the leaky bathtub faucet, planted flowers, discovered the ants' nest in the front flowerbed & treated it. Now that we know where they live, we'll take the war to their house. Mwah, hah, hah!

I still have mystery flowers in one flower bed. I know there are tulips, I think they will be yellow. There are leaves that look like daffodils, but they are huge! The also don't have flower stalks yet. The mounded greenery is also a mystery. I've broken off old flower stalks out of the mounds, but have no idea what they are. All the catalogs show flowers, not leaves. At first I thought they were hens 'n chicks, but now I'm not so sure.


The girls had a good time hunting for Easter eggs this morning. Sometimes they needed guidance, but they got most of them on their own. Now I need to come up with the rest of salad fixins to use up all the hard boiled eggs.

Progress check

Domino made it to the new vet. Nice place. Got his vaccinations & dewormer. Also found out he may have hyperthyroidism. Next step: Bloodwork. Maybe next weekend.

I got the chair re-covered for work. Now we have the comfy chair again!

Shan got all the boxes of books unpacked and shelved today in the new bookcases. (Not on my list, but a major accomplishment anyway.) Then we got most of the boxes broken down & ready for recycling.

Laundry is running, dishes have been worked on. Next on the list: go rent a movie & knit!

Weekend goals

0. Take the cat to the vet. His previous diet of field mice has given him a grand case of intestinal parasites.
1. Finish re-covering the chair for work.
2. Finish Mariah sweater. I'm on the hood. The 6" of the back of the hood shouldn't take that long, should it? I already have almost 4" done, but it seems like it's taking FOREVER!
3. Spot clean carpet where Domino has barfed. (see #0)
4. Stay warm! If this involves sleeping in some, taking afternoon naps, I'm all for it. We're supposed to get 6" of snow tomorrow. Good day to stay inside. (After the cat goes to the vet)
5. Catch up the mundane chores. Bleh. The laundry fairies missed my house, if you see them, send them my way, would ya?

That's probably enough for now. Maybe I can post progress pictures & pictures of the snow.
